Frequently asked questions

The questions we get most often before you choose.

The 2025 Bravia 8 II has a QD-OLED panel: the same perfect black as the Bravia 8, but with more brightness and richer colours. The 2024 Bravia 8 uses a classic OLED panel and is usually priced more sharply. If you want 77 inch you end up with the Bravia 8 automatically: the 8 II only exists in 55 and 65 inch.

The QD-OLED panel delivers the best picture in the whole range, without having to move up to the RGB LED flagship 9 II. Buyers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on average in reviews. If you mostly watch films, this is where you get the most picture for your money.

A new form of mini LED backlighting that Sony introduced in 2026 on the 9 II and 7 II. Instead of white LEDs, there are red, green and blue LEDs behind the screen that are driven separately. That gives more colour volume and a lot more brightness, which is mostly useful in a bright room.

Look at your room. In a dark or dimmed room OLED wins (8 II or 8) thanks to perfect black and contrast. In a bright living room, or if you watch a lot of sport and daytime TV, the RGB LED models (9 II and 7 II) and the mini LED Bravia 5 win because they get far brighter.
