Philips Series 5500 LatteGo Black Coffee Machine

Description

The Philips Series 5500 LatteGo grinds fresh beans with a 12-setting ceramic grinder and makes twenty drinks: hot classics such as espresso, ristretto, americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato and flat white, and iced versions such as iced latte, iced cappuccino and espresso on ice. The two-part LatteGo milk system froths milk without tubes and goes under the tap or in the dishwasher. You run it from a TFT touchscreen and keep your settings in four user profiles. Philips says SilentBrew makes it 40% quieter than earlier models, and the AquaClean filter puts off descaling for up to 5,000 cups. The water tank holds 1.8 litres, the bean container 275 grams.

Pros & cons

• +Pro: Twenty fixed recipes, eight of them iced, without measuring ice and milk yourself.
• +Pro: Four user profiles keep everyone's strength, quantity and milk foam.
• −Con: The milk jug holds 260 ml, so several milk drinks in a row mean frequent refills.
